TOP TV COMIC Hal Cruttenden has been secured as host of the Lux Awards 2017, organisers have announced.
The award-winning comedian – star of BBC shows Live at the Apollo, Have I Got News For You and Great British Bake Off – Extra Slice – will compere the prestigious awards presentations evening on Thursday 16 November at the glamorous InterContinental London at the O2.
‘We’ve been trying to get Hal back for a few years now but the dates often clashed with things like Australian tours,’ said Ray Molony of the Lux Awards. ‘He was a huge hit on the very first Lux Awards at Chelsea Football Club in 2011 and people kept asking us ‘can you get Hal back again?’. So we’re delighted that Hal will bring back his unique brand of humour to the lighting industry’s biggest night out.’
Cruttenden is fresh from playing in front of an audience of 16,000 at the O2 Arena as part of Channel 4’s Comedy Gala in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital.
He has also just finished taking part in the Hell on High Seas challenge where six celebrities and a professional crew sailed from Belfast to London on a Volvo 65 Racing Yacht facing very rough weather and sea sickness to raise over £1 million for Sport Relief. Their progress was shown each night on BBC’s The One Show.
The InterContinental at the O2 is located on the Greenwich Peninsula, next door to the iconic O2 arena. The Lux Awards will take place in the Arora Ballroom, a 32,300 sq.ft space that is one of the largest pillar-free spaces in Europe and capable of seating over 1,000 people. Equipped with a state of the art lighting control system, the ballroom is fitted with dramatic colour-change lighting and a startling array of narrow-beam downlighting.
Reception drinks and after-show party will he hosted in the dramatic River Suite, with its glistening night-time views across the River Thames to the skyscrapers of Canary Wharf.
