LEDs score No 10 a Breeam

The building houses 150 workers, two homes and a suite of presentation and ceremonial staterooms. The refurbishment includes upgrading the lighting to a combination of LED, CFL and T5 fittings.

A Downing Street spokewoman told Lux: ‘This government is committed to improving its environmental footprint, with stretching government-wide sustainability targets. This award from Breeam is great recognition of the work we have done. Efforts to save energy across the building have also helped cut our electricity use by 13 per cent compared with the previous year.’

Breeam Awards are made every year to the highest scoring buildings certified under Breeam schemes in the previous year. The building was rated as ‘very good’ and it received four stars. It is one of 17 buildings worldwide to receive an Award.

The upgrade also incorporates lighting controls and motion detectors.

Downing Street declined to comment on who manufactured the kit.
