The LIA is in the process of testing around 1,200 lamps as part of a major market surveillance project, with new lamps being added ‘on an ongoing basis’. Results will be passed to the NMO, who will act on any false claims.
The LIA and NMO launched the project at the start of the year and aim to release results in early 2014. They will look at 20 samples each of 50-60 different products.
Peter Hunt, chief operating officer of the LIA, said the project had come about as a result of members’ concerns over some of the claims made about lighting products by manufacturers and retailers.
