Resident complaint leaves LED streetlight upgrade in limbo

Trafford Council was due to vote on the planned upgrade of 26,000 streetlights in May, but when concern was raised by a local resident, it was put back by a month. Now the council says the report on the matter won’t go to the executive committee until September.

In the meantime the head of operations in the council’s highway services department, Alun Morgan, has left.

Concerns about the LED upgrade arose when a resident, Simon Nicholas, complained that the council had not properly consulted local people on the change, and warned of the potential dangers of LED lighting with a high blue content and excessive glare.
