Philips ends incandescent trade in NZ

David Procter of Philips New Zealand told Lux the company wanted to focus on more energy-efficient options.

He said: ‘We will still be selling our retail incandescent lamp models, and expect this to contiune until a market-wide government phase-out plan is developed and implemented. The New Zealand government currently has no plans to do this unlike many other countries around the world.

‘As the leader in energy-efficient lighting in the New Zealand market we believe this is an important step to take, particularly as there are now a number of cost effective and longer-life replacement products in the market which provide much better energy savings for customers.’

Philips has seen a significant rise in LED sales in New Zealand over the past two years as businesses and consumers begin to make the switch.
