Lipscombe specialised in retail and worked for many of Britain’s top retailers, including Burberry, Asprey, Harrods, Hamley’s, Vodafone, Tesco, Reiss, Liberty, Safeway, House of Fraser, Gucci, Nike and Levi’s.
Russell worked at Into Lighting before setting up his own practice, Light Tecnica, in 2005. His latest venture was the Office of Light, which again specialised in retail lighting and interactive technology.
Lipscombe was the lighting consultant for the Channel Four Television series on shopping psychology ‘Shop Till You Drop’ and the BBC TV series ‘Mary Queen of Shops’.
In a statement, the directors of Into Lighting, Darren Orrow, Robert Crow, Russell Ford, Tony Cutting, said: ‘We had the good fortune to know Russell both as co-directors and a friend.
‘Russell had a unique ability to captivate an audience whether it be in a social or work environment. His contribution to the lighting design industry especially in the retail arena has been phenomenal and he has inspired many generations of lighting designers, architects and interior designers.
‘After Russell left Into to do his own thing he continued to be very supportive of everything the company and we did. He will be sadly missed’
