This follows from last month’s announcement that 900 jobs would be cut from Osram Sylvania’s Sylvania Lighting Services in North America.
Those working in administration, logistics and production will be affected.
The plant in Traunreut, Southern Bavaria, currently employs over 1,000 people. It is the main production site of Siteco, which makes indoor and outdoor lighting systems for the commercial and retail sectors. These 240 job losses form part of the company’s major restructuring programme, which was announced last year. Around 8,000 jobs are to be cut by the end of 2014, saving $1.35 billion (€1 billion) in costs between 2013 and 2015.
Osram had not responded to requests for comment by the time of publication.
