Businesses could save £55m by switching off lights

Up to £55 million could be saved annually by using incentives to get employees to switch off lights when not needed.

Tools such as positive and negative sanctions, and increasing understanding are among the recommended ways to encourage employees to cut down on energy use.

Campaigns run at Nationwide Building Society to switch off equipment not in use have reduced energy use by 20 per cent and saved £30,000 per year.
