Lamps from Cheshire-based manufacturers AVA Lights will be installed in stations across the country following a successful pilot project at Birmingham International station.
A range of T8 tubes, panels and downlights have been specified for the project, which will be used in conjunction with controls to maximise potential savings.
Lighting accounts for a significant amount of energy use across Virgin’s properties. The stations due to benefit from the rollout include Coventry, Lancaster, Carlisle, Wigan and Penrith, with more locations expected to follow during the year.
Paul Beadle, station manager at Birmingham International, told Lux the pilot project had been very successful. ‘Over each month we’re saving 25,000kWh. That’s around £2000 to £2,500 per month,’ he said.
‘We’re rolling LEDs out all over – we can’t do it quick enough. It’s good for green credentials and cost savings, and it seems like a more vibrant, cleaner, better light.’
