The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) said that the circuit board in the Quantum ELM and ELM2 two-light emergency fixture ‘can overheat and cause the fixture to melt, catch fire and ignite nearby items, posing fire and burn hazards to consumers’.
Lithonia, owned by Acuity Brands, has received 29 such reports, with one incident resulting in more than €73,000 ($100,000) of damage to an office building. No injuries have been reported.
The product, made in Mexico, has been sold at electrical distributors and retailers in the US including the Home Depot, WW Grainger, Grainger.com and Amazon.com between March 2010 and February 2014 for between $35 and $55.
The ELM2 LED, ELM2 SD and ELM2 WRS versions of the product are not included in the recall.
