The lack of accredited testing and market surveillance creates a situation where ‘everybody can CE mark and everybody does,’ Jones told the Lighting Fixture Design Conference.
The solution that Jones proposed is non-mandatory marking schemes such as ENEC, a third-party accredited mark showing conformance with EN safety standards, and its younger cousin, ENEC+, which accredits performance standards too.
ENEC+, launched this year, is designed to allow fair comparisons of the performance of different products, and unified specifications in tender proposals.
