The Lux team will be scouring the halls of the Sparc International Lighting Event for exciting new kit, insightful presentations and, of course, the best lighting parties in Sydney. Here are a few of the items on our agenda.
Listen to this lamp as it watches you
SengLED aren’t the only people to have thought of putting a speaker into a lamp (Sony has done it too) but this is not just a lamp-speaker – the SengLED Pulse combined lamp and bluetooth speaker also contains a security camera – and it’s controllable via a phone or a tablet. Imagine the applications, or see it for yourself when it gets unveiled at Sparc.
Get a bargain from a supermarket light
Supermarket lights that track us as we move around the aisles are no longer limited to science fiction: EldoLED’s visible light communication technology is already being trialled in an actual retail store, and could revolutionise supermarket shopping.
The system allows standard LED luminaires to detect the location of people in a space and transmit data to their smartphones for information or marketing purposes. Look out for EldoLED at Sparc – you might get a live demonstration.
Find your practical solutions
OK, so your warehouse can probably survive without location tracking for a little while longer.
But the everyday practical lighting solutions for your facility have also evolved, and with LED chips getting every more powerful and controls becoming simpler to use yet more sophisticated, now is a good time to look for LED replacements of your luminaires.

Meet a museum lighting mastermind
Simm Steel of the Art Gallery of New South Wales has embraced new lighting technology and achieved superb results. He knows better than anyone that lighting can make or break an exhibition. Hear him talk about the new opportunities LED lighting rings to exhibition spaces at the Theatrette in Hall 2 on Wednesday at 2.30pm.
Get briefed on all things connected
We’re excited to see the latest connected lighting technology, and Philips will no doubt have something to show. Onno Willemse, the boss of connected lighting at Philips, has flown in from the Netherlands to give us the latest update on where the lighting giant is at with new developments. Join the session on Wednesday at 4pm at the Theatrette in Hall 2.
Don’t miss the hottest party of the year
On Thursday evening, Lux will reveal which lighting companies are the absolute hottest in Australia and New Zealand right now. Of all the festivities at and around SPARC, this is the one thing you really don’t want to miss.
OK, so we might be a bit biased here. But as the hosts of the Global Hot List Party, we have experience, and we know it’s going to be the mother of all lighting parties. It’s your best opportunity to network with the Australian lighting industry. The view will be spectacular, the food will be awesome and the drinks will keep coming. See you there.
Your excuse to go out
The largest light music and ideas event in the Southern Hemisphere, Vivid Sydney, is on at the same time at Sparc and for some time afterwards. What better reason to get breath of fresh air, interact with the geometric LED eye at Circular Quay or dance on a piano of light on the steps of the AMP Building at Circular Quay in the early hours.
Sparc takes place at Sydney Exhibition Centre, Glebe Island, from 27-29 May 2015
