Ambitious Opple targets Middle East

Opple Middle East chief DP Smedema says the company was ready ‘to take the vacancy as the new global A-brand’.

Chinese LED lighting manufacturer Opple has set out its ambitious plans to become dominant in the Middle East and around the world at an event in Riyadh.

In a veiled swipe at the so-called Big Three manufacturers who are dealing with the challenges of making the transition to LED lighting, Middle East general manager DP Smedema said that, with ‘the current upheaval in the global lighting market, the company was ready ‘to take the vacancy as the new global A-brand, both within the region and globally’.

‘We welcome you to join us and watch us as we continue our expansion within the Saudi Arabian market,’ he told the 200-strong audience of engineers and ministry officials.

Opple Lighting – which has an agreement with distributor Al Manara to supply the region – has supplied brands in the Middle East and Europe such as Movenpick, Adidas, Mercedes, Burger King and KFC. The company is based in Shanghai, China and employs over 6,000 people worldwide.
