Dynamic lighting on planes gets US approval

liTeMood is up to 40kg lighter than original-fit fluorescent lighting and consumes 70% less power, increasing both the aircraft’s fuel and electrical efficiency.

STG Aerospace’s liTeMood cleared for take-off on Miami Air’s refurbishment of Boeing 737NG fleet.

STG Aerospace has secured clearance for the installation of its liTeMood dynamic lighting system on board Miami Air International’s fleet of Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

The company has achieved the all-important US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for the LED cabin lighting system.

liTeMood is a plug-and-play, programmable LED cabin lighting system that enables airlines to bring the lighting quality of non-LED equipped aircraft cabins up to a standard comparable with the very latest new aircraft.

liTeMood is said to offer significantly increased reliability over traditional lighting systems, thereby reducing ongoing maintenance costs as well as delivering important environmental benefits. Not only is liTeMood up to 40kg lighter than original-fit fluorescent lighting, it also consumes 70% less power, increasing both the aircraft’s fuel and electrical efficiency.

“The many operational benefits of liTeMood were immediately obvious to us, including the significant weight reduction and increased reliability, but the simplicity and speed of the installation was particularly impressive,” said Jim Proia, Miami Air International’s chief executive officer. “Without having to make any aircraft-side changes, we have dramatically improved cabin appearance, creating an enhanced on-board experience for our guests.”

STG Aerospace recently opened a new facility for its US operation. Located adjacent to Miami International Airport, the facility has double the manufacturing and warehousing space of its previous US site.

“This is major step forward for STG Aerospace,” said Marcus Williams, the company’s director of global sales. “Whilst liTeMood has been successfully installed on many airlines in Europe and Latin America, the Miami Air installation is our first US award and validates our installation benefits and customer value with a noteworthy US operator.

“Having now secured an FAA STC for the Boeing 737NG, we look forward to bringing the benefits of a liTeMood solution to other airlines in the US and throughout the Americas.”
