Municipality lights up Khalifa City

Shine on: so far, 2136 lamp posts out of a planned 3061 have been installed at Khalifa City

Abu Dhabi City Municipality has erected over 2100 lamp posts and extended electric cables by more than 100 km at Khalifa City. The step comes as part of the city’s lighting overall project and plans to improve its infrastructure.

HE Musabbah Mubarak Al Murar, acting general manager, Abu Dhabi City Municipality, said: “This project is part of the sweeping Development Plan 2030 covering Abu Dhabi and suburbs. It reflects the Municipality’s strategy to upgrade the infrastructure of all cities, especially promising cities such as Khalifa City. We are introducing services capable of measuring up with the rising urbanistion and demographic growth rates witnessed by the city.”

So far, 2136 lamp posts out of a planned 3061 have been installed. Engineer Eisa Mubarak Al Mazroui, acting executive director of municipal assets and infrastructure sector said: “The Municipality, in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Distribution Company, has extended the power cables to South West Sector (12), Khalifa City as part of the first batch. Work is up and running in the other batches to erect lamp posts in other sectors every week.

“The Municipality targets lighting nearly 40% of internal roads in Khalifa City by the end of this year, while all other sectors will follow suit in the first quarter of next year 2016,” said Al Mazroui.

The lighting strategy of Abu Dhabi City Municipality aims to introduce LED fixtures to cut average energy consumption by 67% compared to traditional lighting systems.
