The arrival of connecting lighting technology is the revolution that is inching the industry towards a complete reinvention.
In recognition of the new age that the industry is entering, we will be honoring the best of connected lighting technology, for the first time, at this year’s Lux Awards.
The rise and rise of the internet of things has been the story of the year and the role the technology will play in the future of the industry looks set to dominate the agenda in 2017.
The plain truth of the matter is that the revenues from LEDs are declining and the industry is in need of a new sacred cow on which to place its hopes.
The potential of connecting lighting is huge, but there are still issues that need to be solved. Security remains a major sticking point and IoT products are being hacked at an alarming rate.
And we don’t view the term ‘smart’ as a lazy replacement for dimmable by the way. Just because you can dim your lights with a smart phone does not put you at the forefront of the IoT revolution. Instead IoT can be found in smart cities, in LiFi and Power over Ethernet.
These are the products that we think stand at the forefront of the connected lighting revolution.
