This year’s Lux Awards are set to focus on the exciting new technologies disrupting the traditional way of doing things in the lighting sector.
No fewer than three categories reflect the increasingly high-tech nature of today’s lighting: Connected Lighting Innovation of the Year, Connected Lighting Concept of the Year and Enabling Technology of the Year.
The Connected Lighting Innovation of the Year is sponsored by leading technology distributor Arrow and includes all hardware using Visible Light Communication, IP-based ‘Internet of Things’ systems, Li-Fi, data management and smart cities technologies.
The Connected Lighting Concept of the Year, by contrast, focuses on the best use of IP-connected lighting. This could be an app, software or a service using the platform or even an idea for a compelling use-case. It’s sponsored by the full-stack IoT-lighting supplier Gooee.
The Enabling Technology of the Year category meanwhile looks at exceptional developments in sources, drivers, optics, thermal products and innovative materials.
‘These categories reflect the exciting new possibilities opening up in the market and point to a future where lighting and the internet fuse together to save energy, deliver a responsive environment and create new digital services,’ said chairman of the judges Ray Molony.
‘We hope the entries and eventual winners in these categories will inspire customers and indeed the wider industry. They will also send a powerful message that, far from being pie in the sky, these digital possibilities are real and happening now in the market.’
