PREMIER LEAGUE team Tottenham Hotspur is riding high after stunning Ajax with a 3-2 victory to make the European Champions League final in June.
And its £800 million new stadium – recently unveiled at its base in north London – more than matches its status as one of the hottest teams in current football.
Designed by F3 Architects and project managed by Base Contracts, the stadium sets a precedent for world class design.
The lighting at the 62,062 seat, 120,000 square metre stadium doesn’t disappoint either.
A standout feature is a signature 28 metre ‘swirl lights’ which deliver a seamless fluidity in the Media Café, the centre for the press on match days with screens visible at all angles. The front café area open to the public and back section closed off through a bi-folding wall. JPR Lighting – which was commissioned for a complete turnkey service – developed a unique housing which was fabricated around the client’s vision. These continuous lines were each designed with a one-piece diffuser for a seamless finish.
JPR’s involvement encompasses a diverse range of environments; the Players’ Lounge, Media Café, H-Club Members Suite as well as the Sky Lounge Stratus east and west atriums totalling over 24,000 sqm of floor area. These spaces deliver the next generation of stadium experience, providing innovative design and new concepts in entertainment within this multi-functional stadium.
A bespoke design featured around the circumference of the Luminaire Bar and lift lobby, all central in the heart of the H-Club Members suite. The H Club, a discerning private members club, thrust into the world of entertainment.
Steeped in the history of Tottenham Hotspur’s founding years. JPR Lighting created a 1 to 1 scale sample to prove the lantern concept of the Luminaire Bar was achievable for client sign off.
This brass fronted step lantern echoes the luxurious details throughout the suite. Pre-fabricated into individual sections and installed onsite with over 230m of diffused LED. A totally bespoke solution that meets the client’s exact vision.
The Players Lounge is a space where football stars such as Harry Kane and Dele Alli will be given a psychological boost before each home game.
Subliminal hexagon design details throughout the lounge intend to help the players focus on the goal net prior to the game.
These design themes where key to the success of the space and were important that the lighting echoed this. The hexagon ceiling system comprises acoustic sections and light boxes for a complete ceiling system.
The light boxes included a track and sheet system with LED sources. Recessed into the ceiling structure with a Class 0 fire rated fabric diffuser for a flush fabric to edge diffusion.
Stratus East and West atrium lounges are modern, contemporary spaces where guests will enjoy stunning, panoramic views across London from the highest vantage point available in the stadium. London views one side and pitch views for full match day action the other. For this area a triangular ceiling design was presented to the team which soon developed into an array of bespoke lightbox and acoustic solutions.
It was important to the client that access behind all lightboxes was feasible, achieving a one person operation in lowering and maintaining the fitting. JPR developed a unique hinge system using a cok and latch mechanism to make this achievable. The ceiling layout comprises over 500 bespoke triangle boxes designed, manufactured and installed throughout the East and West wings of the Sky Lounge by JPR Lighting.
