UK OFFICE furniture giant Bisley is to supply meeting pods and phone booths with ultraviolet lighting to kill bacteria and viruses.

It’s the latest in line of UV lighting products to hit the market in the wake of the Covid-19 outbreak.

The units, made by Vetrospace in Finland, are ‘the most hygienic, private modular spaces on the market,’ the company said.

The Clean Room version is certified to ISO-7 Clean Room certification and is fitted with anti-microbial photon disinfection lighting that kills bacteria including MRSA and E-Coli.

ANTiBAC clean lighting is automatically activated when you step into a Vetrospace, which  restricts the growth of microbes.

When you leave the pod, the Wisdom AiR UV disinfection lights turn on.

This generates what the manufacturer terms a powerful antimicrobial effect, which kills up to 99.9 per cent of microbes, but is harmless to humans and material and makes a room clean of all bacteria in six hours.

In addition it has a HEPA filtration system that filters out 99 per get of all particles in the air entering the room.

The Health variant also comes with the entire room coated in a photocatalytic nano coating that kills viruses on contact including Covid-19.

There are six booth sizes ranging from 1 square metre to 12 square metres and five structural layouts.

As a result, modular phone pods and withdrawal spaces can be more than just quiet spaces to hold meetings or to work on your own.

Vetrospace booths are designed to create environments that greatly enhance productivity, vitality, health and wellbeing and achieves a very high acoustic rating of 0.03 STI standard.

‘Health and wellbeing in the workplace is a top concern for employers and employees,’ Jonathan Cole, the international sales manager for Vetrospace told Lux.

‘Vetrospace provides a peaceful and healthy working environment to maximise productivity and eliminate workplace distractions.

‘Bisley has a well-known reputation for excellence, which is why we are so excited to announce our new partnership.’

‘Vetrospace is a great addition to the Bisley portfolio,’ said Robin Bayliss, group sales director for Bisley.

‘Post Covid-19 the landscape of the modern workplace will undoubtedly change; having an individual office or meeting space that can kill bacteria and viruses effectively is a vital component of our future healthy working environment.

‘We are delighted to be introducing the most technology advanced sound isolation booths to the UK and beyond, where people can concentrate and work more effectively, as well as communicate privately.’

Interest in ultraviolet lighting – and specifically UV-C, which can kills viruses, including the coronavirus – has soared since the Covid-19 outbreak.

However, industry bodies including the Illumination Engineering Society and the Global Lighting Association have warned that UV-C is dangerous to humans and needs special care and precautions.
