THE SENSORY Nook is the first mobile lighting pod designed to support people with special needs in education, care sector, public and social spaces and the workplace.
They are designed provide a safe shelter that doesn’t isolate individuals but allows them to take part within the protection of a personally controllable sensory environment.
The standard Sensory Nook unit is 2000mm x 920mm x 1960mm.
They are modular by design and supplied in a range of combinations to suit specific client needs.
These go from supportive work pods to full sensory room alternatives.
The units feature sound reducing padding because noise is the greatest barrier for people with Autism.
They also include RGBW colour control lighting as colour lighting has a powerful influence on mood and behaviour.
It can be calming or energising as well as being able to help people with conditions such as dyslexia and face blindness function much more effectively.
Fibre optic strands and wall carpets provide a visually calming distraction and tactile element for fidgeting or weighting, which is said to be particularly effective for reducing anxiety quickly and preventing meltdown situations.
Interactive LED sensory equipment are specialist items designed to support special needs through cause and effect responsiveness or active calming or stimulation.
They provide a controllable and ‘highly engaging’ distraction for people who are becoming overwhelmed by external sensory inputs.
Ultraviolet light has a calming effect and reacts with UV enhanced polymer coatings on the fibre optic strands to make them fluoresce brightly so people with visual impairment can see them more clearly.
An option is a Bluetooth sound system which allows individuals to connect their own devices and play their personal soundtracks whilst relaxing in a Sensory Nook for maximum calming effect.
Another is a ‘scent delivery system’ which can support marketing activity in commercial settings it is a powerful memory stimulus to support learning and dementia care as scent is our strongest sense linked to memory functions.
The Sensory Nooks are compact plug and play pods with strong lockable wheels enabling them to be easily moved and set up where they can be most effective.
They have recently been approved by the IBCCES as a Certified Autism Resource. Whilst they are still relatively new, they have found homes in schools, libraries, sports stadiums, hospitals and even a music festival.
